A Kentucky man who won a $167 million Powerball jackpot in 2025 has been arrested.

James Farthing, 50, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Feb. 11, accused of intimidating a participant in a legal process, according to the Louisville Courier Journal, which cited a Scott County Sheriff’s Department arrest citation.

The citation says a woman contacted authorities after meeting Farthing for a prearranged date. She told police she felt pressured to take a “gummy” and was unsure what it contained, the report said. She also claimed people at a residence wanted to hurt her.

Deputies responded to a home in Georgetown, Kentucky, where they allegedly found a firearm and ammunition on Farthing’s bedside table, according to the citation.

The woman was described as appearing intoxicated and extremely fearful and was taken to the hospital, FOX 56 reported. While police were questioning her, Farthing allegedly sent a text message that read, “Why would you do this to me unreal id never hurt u,” the citation states.

Farthing allegedly told investigators the woman “had been perfectly fine” before she disappeared from the group, according to the citation.

Farthing was previously arrested in Florida in April 2025 on allegations including battery, obstruction or resisting arrest, and battery of a law enforcement officer—days after he won the Kentucky Powerball, according to the Post and Courier.

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 2, WKYT reported.
