Loren Ruch, a beloved HGTV executive and television personality, has passed away at the age of 55 following a battle with myeloid leukemia. He died on June 12.
Ruch joined HGTV in 2005 and quickly became a driving force behind many of the network’s most popular programs. He was promoted to head of content in January 2023 and also co-hosted the 2021 series HGTV House Party.
Channing Dungey, chair of Warner Bros. Television Group, confirmed Ruch’s passing in a heartfelt memo to staff.
“Loren was the rare leader who lifted everyone around him,” Dungey wrote. “Known for his unwavering dedication, endless kindness, and unshakeable integrity, Loren built not only hit shows but meaningful relationships. He served as a mentor, advocate, and true friend to countless colleagues across the industry.”
“He was the glue that held teams together, and he had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and inspired,” Dungey added.
During his tenure at HGTV, Ruch played a key role in developing hit series such as HGTV Dream Home, White House Christmas, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, Celebrity IOU, and A Very Brady Renovation.
Jasmine Roth, host of Help! I Wrecked My House, honored Ruch on social media, writing:
“To know Loren was to love him. He had one of those personalities that people gravitate toward. He was fun-loving and one of the most creative people I’ve met.”
Ruch is survived by his husband, Davis Salas, as well as his parents and brother. He and Salas had recently celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary on June 4.
Our deepest condolences go out to Loren Ruch’s family, friends, and HGTV colleagues during this difficult time.
