A Georgia high school student has died after collapsing during football practice, leaving his school and community in mourning.

Fifteen-year-old Mikah King, a student and athlete at Arabia Mountain High School in Stonecrest, Georgia, suffered a sudden medical emergency during football practice on Tuesday, July 22. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, according to multiple local news outlets including WXIA-TV, WANF-TV, and WAGA-TV.

The cause of the medical incident has not been released, and it’s unclear whether Mikah had any pre-existing health conditions. In a letter to the school community, principal Tanya J. Mason asked for privacy and urged people not to speculate or share unconfirmed information about his passing.

“The entire King family is in our thoughts and prayers,” Mason wrote. “We ask that you keep them lifted in love and comfort as they navigate this heartbreaking moment.”

The school district confirmed the “unexpected passing” and announced that grief counselors would be available for students and staff in the coming days to help them process the loss.

“Our primary goal is to ensure that our students feel supported emotionally during this incredibly difficult time,” Mason said.

Mikah, who played both offensive guard and defensive tackle, was remembered by friends and teammates as a lively and positive presence on the field.

“He loved [football] as much as I did,” said Jordan Hollie, one of Mikah’s closest friends. “He was my practice partner. He would push me to be better. He was just a funny, goofy person.”

A GoFundMe created by Mikah’s family described the teen as more than just an athlete. “Mikah was a spark — full of energy, compassion, and joy,” the family wrote. “To his friends, he was family. And to his loved ones, he was a light that made every day brighter.”

Mikah had also previously played at Southwest DeKalb High School before joining Arabia Mountain.

His sudden passing follows a growing number of incidents involving young athletes experiencing medical emergencies during practices or games, sparking broader conversations about youth sports safety and health screenings.

As the community grieves, Mikah is being remembered not only for his talent on the field but for the joy he brought to those around him.
