A U.S. man claims he stumbled upon a hidden room in his house—nearly a year after moving in—after noticing a mysterious window on the outside of the home that didn’t appear to connect to any known interior space.

Jason Murtagh, who posts comedic content on TikTok and Instagram under the handle @jaystylex, told Newsweek that his curiosity got the better of him after months of seeing the strange window. “We’ve been in this house for about a year,” Murtagh explained. “We noticed the window from outside, but never saw anything that matched on the inside.”

That lingering mystery prompted Murtagh to start exploring every nook and cranny of the house. In a series of now-viral TikTok videos, he documented what appears to be the discovery of a concealed room—hidden behind a bureau that had been nailed to the wall. One clip shows him prying the furniture away to reveal a narrow passage leading to a dark space behind it.

The idea that an entire room had been walled off—or hidden intentionally—has fascinated millions. The four-part video series has racked up over 10 million views, though Murtagh admits his followers should view the saga with a healthy sense of humor.

“I’ve always loved making people laugh,” he said. “So yes, some of the secret-room content plays into that. But the curiosity and thrill are very real. I’ve lived in a lot of unique houses thanks to my job in the auto industry, and I love exploring strange features.”

Social media has long been captivated by stories of hidden doors, basements, and forgotten storage rooms, especially in older homes. A poll by Neighbor.com found that one in four Americans crave more living space—making the idea of uncovering a secret room both relatable and exciting.

“I think people connect with the fantasy of finding something unexpected,” Murtagh said. “It’s like a movie moment—a hidden door, a secret lair, something mysterious right under your nose.”

As for what he plans to do with the space, Murtagh says it’s still a work in progress. He’s not yet located the window from the inside, and the room’s full layout remains unclear.

“It’s a decent-sized space. Maybe it becomes a man-cave. Maybe just a quiet room away from everything,” he said. “Right now, I’m just enjoying the adventure.”

And while some viewers question whether the discovery is authentic or part of a well-crafted social media bit, Murtagh is happy to let the suspense build: “I’m not done looking—and who knows what else I’ll find.”
