Police in Chelsea, Michigan, are asking the public to help identify a woman who allegedly donated what appeared to be a human skull at a local Goodwill drop-off.
According to the Chelsea Police Department, an officer was dispatched on Jan. 26 to the 1100 block of S. Main Street after a report of a suspicious item discovered among donations. The complainant told police they had found what looked like a human skull, wrapped inside a shirt.
The officer took possession of the skull and noted in a report that there was no visible damage and no unusual holes. Police later transferred the item to the medical examiner’s office for further examination.
“The case remains open pending further investigation to determine the circumstances and origin of the item,” the report stated.
A departmental bulletin included surveillance images of the woman at the Goodwill location on Jan. 26. Police said she donated multiple items and believe the skull may have been accidentally included in the donation.
“One of the items appears to have been accidentally included in the donations,” the bulletin stated. “Chelsea PD would like to speak with her to confirm her decision.”
Anyone with information about the woman’s identity is asked to contact Chelsea Police’s non-emergency line at 734-475-9122, ext. 3.
