Human Skull Found by Workers in Michigan — Police Believe It Could Be Linked to an Investigation

A crew surveying land in a wooded area outside Detroit discovered a human skull that investigators believe may connect to a prior case involving unidentified remains.

The skull was located around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, near Michigan Avenue and Newburgh Road in the city of Wayne, according to CBS Detroit, FOX 2 and Click On Detroit.

Wayne Police Deputy Chief Finley Carter III told the outlets that the skull — missing its teeth — could be related to skeletal remains found in the same general area earlier this year in March. Those remains have not yet been identified.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct additional testing to determine the identity of the person.

Forensic Anthropologist Dr. Carolyn Isaac explained to FOX 2 that this discovery may help investigators build a fuller profile of the individual.

“Once we have an idea of the biological profile — ‘Who does this match up with? Any missing persons reports?’ — then we will get information from a potential missing person. Do they have X-rays of their head, or a CT scan or detail X-rays? Then we will try and compare them point by point,” she said.

Authorities have not released details on a possible cause of death. Carter noted that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The Wayne Police Department has not yet provided further comment.
