As Hunter Biden faced mounting legal troubles last year, he reportedly turned to the Democratic National Committee with a plea: help cover his growing legal expenses. But according to a forthcoming political tell-all, his request was denied.

The book, 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America, claims Hunter Biden sought financial help from the DNC as his legal situation worsened. While the committee was already paying legal fees related to President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents, it declined to extend the same support to the president’s son.

Written by journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf, the book details how by mid-2024, Hunter’s legal and financial troubles had become overwhelming. Much of his defense was being funded by his longtime friend and financial backer, Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris — nicknamed Hunter’s “sugar brother.”

Morris had already paid more than $2 million of Hunter’s unpaid taxes and was covering additional legal expenses, including payments ordered by the courts, such as alimony to ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and child support to Lunden Roberts, the mother of Hunter’s daughter, Navy Joan, according to The New York Post.

Morris later testified to Congress that Hunter’s legal bills had soared to roughly $5 million by the time the 2024 presidential race was heating up. Morris’ own daughter publicly criticized the arrangement, accusing Hunter of “taking advantage” of her father’s generosity.

Hunter’s legal battles only intensified. In June 2023, a former law firm sued him for over $50,000 in unpaid fees. A year later, on June 11, 2024, he was convicted on three felony gun charges. By September, he had also pleaded guilty to multiple tax felonies related to $1.4 million in unpaid taxes.

According to The Wall Street Journal, President Biden privately confided to a friend, “The only thing I care about is that my son is not convicted.” The book further claims that Biden even considered setting up a legal defense fund to help his son fight federal charges and a congressional probe into his foreign business dealings.

Ultimately, the president took more decisive action: he issued a sweeping pardon for Hunter, covering all charges and any potential related offenses committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.
