A pregnant woman is asking for advice online after sharing that her husband “dramatically” slapped a plate of sushi off the table. He argued that she shouldn’t be eating it, even though it was completely vegan.

On Reddit, the woman explained that she is “vegetarian and eat[s] mostly vegan with some exceptions like small amounts of dairy or honey.”

She shared: “Recently I got [a] sushi making kit to make vegan sushi at home and ended up making some avocado cucumber rolls. I was just sitting down to eat them when my husband dramatically ran up to me and slapped my plate off the table, making a huge mess on the kitchen floor. Of course, that really upset me, so I asked him what the actual f was he doing.”

The post continues: “He started screaming about how I am being negligent and careless about my baby and that eating sushi is very harmful. I hadn’t eaten all day, so I didn’t even have the energy to laugh at how ridiculous that sounded. I tried explaining that this doesn’t apply to vegan sushi rolls, since the problem is with raw fish. But he didn’t listen and started listing other things I’ve eaten or done that he thinks are irresponsible, like eating pineapple occasionally or papaya (fully ripened papaya is safe in moderation).”

She added that the argument left her so “overwhelmed” that she started to cry, and her husband then said, “Boohoo, I’m so sad I can’t hurt my baby.”

The woman said she then “snapped” and reminded him of things his own family members had done during pregnancy, like drinking alcohol. She also told him she was “sick of his mom and sister” giving dietary advice, arguing that his family doesn’t really care about the baby’s nutrition since they feed their own kids “super processed junk food.”

The argument later escalated to include her husband’s first child. She eventually “packed a bag” and went to a hotel temporarily.

She wrote: “He started blowing up my phone asking me to come home so I can watch his daughter, but I don’t want to deal with her either. I blocked him everywhere and blocked his mom and sister too.”

In the post, she asked Reddit users if she was in the wrong — but most disagreed.

One commenter wrote: “Run far far away from this man. Get a divorce before you give birth and get as far away as you can.”

Another said: “It was vegan sushi, not raw fish. Your husband overreacted and disrespected you, slapping food and mocking you. His family is controlling. Your reaction was harsh, but after constant criticism, it’s understandable. The real issue is lack of support, not sushi.”
