Jorge García-Dihinx, a 55-year-old Spanish influencer, and his wife, Natalia Román, were among those killed Monday in an avalanche while skiing in the Pyrenees, the mountain range along the border of France and Spain.
García-Dihinx, a practicing pediatrician, had built an audience of more than 375,000 followers on Instagram, where he regularly shared health advice. A devoted skier, he also ran the blog La Meteo Que Viene (which translates to “the weather that’s coming”), posting updates on conditions at ski locations across Spain.
According to Spanish outlets Heraldo de Aragón, ABC Aragon, and El País, the avalanche was triggered in the early afternoon on Dec. 29 when a slab of ice broke nearly 9,000 feet above sea level, sending snow cascading across hundreds of acres.
Those reports said three people — García-Dihinx, Román, and Eneko Arrastua, all described as highly experienced skiers — were killed. A fourth woman suffering symptoms of hypothermia was airlifted from the scene, while two others caught in the slide escaped without injury.

Earlier this month, García-Dihinx responded to followers who asked why he “accepted the risks” of high-intensity skiing.
“We go to the mountains for moments like these,” he wrote. “At 3,000 meters, while the modern world remains below, up there, you’re only focused on the next step — these are moments of absolute attention to the present moment.”
His final post on Instagram appeared to be a video shared Dec. 26 about why the risk of heart attacks increases on Christmas Eve. In the comments, followers shared tributes.
