On July 23, Elizabeth Lawlor agreed to meet her ex-boyfriend, Sean Knight Nicholson — the oldest grandson of actor Jack Nicholson — for what was supposed to be a calm talk. But by the end of the night, she was unconscious and missing part of a front tooth.

According to police reports, Nicholson, 29, had contacted Lawlor, 28, saying he wanted to reconnect as friends after leaving rehab. He said he was going through a hard time. Nicholson, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, has a history of mixing prescription medicine with illegal drugs, according to the report.

The two first began dating in April 2023. Their relationship was unstable, with several breakups, reconciliations, and multiple domestic violence claims.

On the day of the incident, Lawlor told police that Nicholson texted her saying he had taken an entire bottle of Valium and would kill himself if she didn’t come over. Worried for his safety, she went to his apartment in Venice, California, even though they hadn’t seen each other in months.

What began as a conversation turned into an argument about cheating. At one point, Lawlor grabbed Nicholson’s phone to check for drug use. She believed Nicholson had lied about staying clean. Around 5:30 p.m., Nicholson allegedly grabbed her by the neck and head, threw her against a hard object, and she blacked out.

When she woke up, Lawlor realized her front tooth was broken. She left the apartment but was found by a security guard and later went back upstairs with Nicholson. Lawlor then sent pictures of her injuries to Nicholson’s mother, Jennifer Nicholson, who called 911.

Police arrived, photographed her injuries, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment. She needed surgery for her chipped tooth, stitches, and care for facial injuries.

On August 7, Nicholson was arrested on a felony charge of causing injury to a partner. He was also booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which in this case was described as “hands, feet, and teeth.” He was released later that day on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on August 26. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison.

Lawlor has since filed for a restraining order, which a judge temporarily approved on August 11. A court hearing is set for September 2.

Nicholson has not made any public statements about the allegations.
