Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, strongly criticized President Donald Trump and his supporters on Wednesday, labeling them unpatriotic during an appearance on California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s podcast.
During the conversation, Crockett accused Trump of leveraging Congress, his administration, and the courts whenever he faced opposition.
“Whether we’re talking about those in his administration, the courts, or Congress, that is one of the reasons he is so desperate to win in the midterms,” Crockett said. “Because Democrats, it’s not even about partisanship. It’s about doing what’s right. It’s about doing the American thing.”
She continued, “And to be clear, you can wave all the flags you want, but I am telling you right now that the most unpatriotic people in this country are MAGA and this president. We are the real patriots. It is time for us to take our flag back and show people what America is about.”
Crockett also accused Trump of undermining the Constitution and stripping away freedoms.
“You can’t claim to love the Constitution while decimating it with every executive order, disrespecting our troops who have signed up to protect our freedoms both here and abroad, and then taking people’s freedoms away using those very troops. I just don’t understand,” she said.
In response, White House assistant press secretary Liz Huston told Fox News Digital, “President Trump is the leader of the greatest and most patriotic political movement in history.”
Crockett and Trump have exchanged sharp words in recent months. The Democratic lawmaker previously referred to the president as a “piece of s—,” while Trump has called Crockett a “low-IQ person.”
In a June podcast with Katie Couric, Crockett described anyone who supports Trump as “sick” and said Americans of all political affiliations “should be against Trump.” She also criticized the president for deploying National Guardsmen and Marines to Los Angeles to respond to anti-ICE protests, calling it an act of “retribution” executed by his “special little army.”
“It is sick. It is really sick, and anybody that supports it is also sick,” she said. “We’ve got a mental health crisis in this country because everyone, no matter how you affiliate yourself, should be against Trump. Period.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed Crockett’s comments in June, stating, “The last time I checked, Jasmine Crockett couldn’t dream of winning such a majority of the public as President Trump did.”
