Rep. Jasmine Crockett didn’t hold back when asked about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s decision to leave Congress.

Greene, 51, said Friday, Nov. 21, that she plans to step down as the representative for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District in early 2026. The announcement landed as her public relationship with President Donald Trump has grown increasingly strained.

Crockett, 44, responded during a Sunday, Nov. 23, appearance on CNN with Jake Tapper. Pointing to Greene’s recent break with Trump, Crockett suggested her rival wasn’t prepared for the blowback that comes with being on the president’s bad side.

“You know what? Honestly, I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me,’” Crockett said, describing her reaction to the news. She added that Greene had been on the “other side of the president for one week” and “can’t take the heat,” contrasting that with her own experience as a frequent target of political attacks. Crockett also referenced the kinds of threats she says lawmakers face when they oppose Trump and when others “fan the flames of hate.”

Still, Crockett emphasized that her priority remains her constituents in Texas’s 30th Congressional District.

“At the end of the day, I know that I serve the people of Texas 30,” she said. “My job isn’t to do whatever is going to make the president not be on my back, but instead to focus on policies that are positive for Texas 30.”

The two lawmakers’ feud became nationally known in May 2024 after a contentious House Oversight Committee meeting. During that hearing, Greene mocked Crockett’s appearance and told her that her “fake eyelashes” were interfering with her reading, drawing sharp criticism from other members, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Crockett fired back with the remark that would go viral: “bleach-blonde, bad built, butch body,” aimed at Greene.

Greene said her resignation will take effect Jan. 5, 2026. In a video posted to X, she described her refusal to stay in a political situation where she felt sidelined, saying she wouldn’t be a “battered wife” waiting for things to improve. Her announcement came about a week after Trump publicly withdrew his endorsement of her.

Crockett also addressed Greene’s exit on X, writing that she hadn’t expected the move but that the risks of opposing Trump “ARE REAL.” She argued that Trump has a pattern of discarding allies once they’re no longer useful, and she included Greene in that list.

Crockett ended her post by saying her office had reached out to Greene’s team to explore bipartisan member-safety legislation before Greene leaves office.

“I’m serious about working collaboratively on this effort if there is an interest,” she wrote. “We can get it drafted before January.”
