Jennifer Lawrence is sharing a glimpse into what keeps her marriage with husband Cooke Maroney steady, even though she says they’re “the opposite” of each other.

The actress, 35, appeared on the Jan. 12 episode of the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. During the conversation, Lawrence described Maroney — with whom she shares two children — as the “anchor” of their family and the one who keeps everyone “organized.”

“I married somebody who is the opposite of me,” she said. “Yeah. He is so organized. Everything is ordered. Like, I have to keep the closet doors closed, and I have my little jobs that I work really hard to do.”

Lawrence admitted she’s never been great at sticking to a schedule, but motherhood helped her understand why structure matters.

“I get it now, I get it,” she said, explaining that their kids follow a consistent routine — down to a specific breakfast time.

She added that Maroney is the one who’s especially good at keeping the family on track, while she sometimes struggles to keep up. To make sure that difference doesn’t create tension, they’ve developed a simple rule.

“We’ve learned, to keep our marriage alive, I have a 15-minute wiggle room,” Lawrence said.

The pair were first linked in 2018 after meeting through a mutual friend. They got engaged in February 2019 and married at the Belcourt of Newport mansion in Rhode Island in October 2019, with celebrities including Adele, Kris Jenner and Amy Schumer in attendance.

Lawrence and Maroney share two children: son Cy, 3, and a baby born in early 2024, whose sex and name they have not revealed.

Although the couple tends to keep their relationship private, Lawrence spoke publicly about Maroney for the first time in June 2019 following their engagement.

“Well, he’s just the best person I’ve ever met in my whole life,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. She added that it was “a very, very easy decision” to say “yes” when Maroney proposed.

In a November 2021 interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence also shared a small everyday ritual she enjoys with her husband.

“I really enjoy going to the grocery store with him,” she said. “I don’t know why, but it fills me with a lot of joy. I think maybe because it’s almost a metaphor for marriage. ‘Okay, we’ve got this list. These are the things we need. Let’s work together and get this done.’”

Most recently, the couple stepped out together for a rare public date night at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 11. They were photographed sitting side by side at their table inside the Beverly Hilton hotel venue.

Maroney wore a classic black tuxedo and bow tie, and Lawrence wore a sheer nude gown with floral embroidery.
