Jessie J Hospitalized for Complications 6 Weeks After Breast Cancer Surgery: ‘Still Have Pain in My Chest’

Jessie J says she’s “feeling a lot stronger,” even as she continues to experience chest pain six weeks after undergoing breast cancer surgery.

The 37-year-old “Price Tag” singer is recovering at home after being hospitalized for what was initially thought to be a blood clot in her lungs — a scare that turned out to be something else.

“6 weeks post surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned. I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD,” she shared via Instagram stories as reported by Billboard.

Jessie explained that doctors ran several tests, which revealed she has an infection — the exact cause still unknown — along with some fluid in her lungs. “Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient,” she added.

Injecting some humor into her update, Jessie (whose real name is Jessica Cornish) quipped, “I finally got a diagnosis of what’s been going on. Lots of people have been asking. Apparently it’s called… Dramatic? I think that’s the spelling,” she joked in another Instagram story on August 4.

On a more serious note, the “Bang Bang” artist said, “My symptoms are the same and no idea what’s wrong yet, but my sarcasm and sense of humor are holding on.”

Speaking candidly in a video recorded from her bed, she addressed fans’ concerns: “I think people think that I’m, like, hanging on by a thread, which in some moments has felt that way — like two or three days ago when I woke up, and I couldn’t breathe. I still have pain in my chest when I breathe, but it’s not as bad.”

“I had breast cancer and I had surgery,” Jessie said, referencing her June mastectomy. “The possibility of a blood clot is quite high and that’s what they were concerned about, so that’s why they took me in and did extensive tests.”

While still waiting for definitive answers, she said, “I have very few other symptoms now, so I’m hoping it’s just a viral [illness]. My immune system needs a little bit more love, but I am resting guys, and I also am feeling better. I’m no worse. Yeah, I’m not feeling any worse, and I am resting and I promise I shower.”

She also addressed how she’s looked in recent updates, adding lightheartedly, “I’m fully aware that these videos of me looking ill … is just me. This is just my normal face. This is what I look like, this isn’t ill,” before joking that she’s “fifty shades of beige.”

“I’m feeling a lot stronger,” she said, brushing off suggestions to take it easier. “People keep telling me like sit down, do less, and I’m like, well I am. This is resting for me.”
