Hollywood icon Johnny Depp is joining forces with legendary director Ridley Scott for a chilling new project — a graphic novel series and film adaptation inspired by Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Titled Hyde, the upcoming graphic novel reimagines the classic gothic tale from a sinister new angle, portraying Mr. Hyde as he fully overtakes Dr. Jekyll and lurks in the sewers of Victorian London. With the aid of a mysterious serum, Hyde begins transforming others into monstrous reflections of himself.
The project is being developed by Scott’s production company in collaboration with Jesse Negron, CEO of Mechanical Cake. The graphic novel, set to debut this Halloween, features artwork modeled directly after Depp, who is also creatively involved in the character’s development and story arc. A film adaptation is already in early development, with Depp expected to star in the lead role.
“To build within the world of Robert Louis Stevenson’s masterful characters — and to be welcomed into the vision of Ridley Scott — is surreal,” Depp said. “It’s insane and beautiful to receive that trust from Ridley. A master.”
The property will be co-owned by Depp, Scott, and Mechanical Cake, signaling a long-term vision for both print and screen.
Fans will get their first glimpse of Hyde at San Diego Comic-Con, where an exclusive panel will feature Jesse Negron, concept artist Anthony Francisco, and other key creatives discussing the intersection of graphic art and film in this ambitious project. Preview visuals reveal a dark, brooding version of Depp’s Hyde — a visual tone that matches the psychological depth of the story.
With one of literature’s most haunting characters brought to life by Depp and guided by the cinematic eye of Ridley Scott, Hyde promises a gripping blend of horror, art, and transformation.
