The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced the charges on Wednesday, March 18, following an investigation into allegations stemming from a family vacation in Florida.
Duggar, 31, was booked into the Washington County Jail in Arkansas at 3:59 p.m. local time on Wednesday. He is currently awaiting extradition to Bay County, Florida, to face the formal charges.
Details of the Allegations
According to an arrest warrant obtained by investigators, the alleged abuse occurred while the victim’s family was vacationing in Panama City Beach. The victim, who is now 14, recently participated in a forensic interview that triggered the current criminal proceedings.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office detailed a series of disturbing encounters during the 2020 trip:
- Initial Contact: Duggar allegedly asked the 9-year-old victim to sit on his lap.
- The Incident: Authorities state Duggar later asked the victim to sit next to him on a couch under a blanket, where he “manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals.”
- Confession: The victim’s father reportedly confronted Duggar regarding the incidents. Law enforcement officials state that Duggar admitted to his actions during conversations with both the father and detectives in Tontitown, Arkansas.
The victim noted that Duggar eventually apologized for his actions, at which point the physical contact ceased.
