Joseph Duggar was released from Florida custody Tuesday afternoon after a judge set his bond at $600,000. Duggar, facing a “life felony” charge involving the alleged sexual abuse of a minor, is now subject to strict court-ordered mandates that prohibit him from being alone with any children, including his own.

The 31-year-old appeared remotely before Judge Tracy Smith in a Bay County courtroom just hours after his extradition from Arkansas. Duggar appeared in a striped inmate uniform, showing a disheveled appearance during the brief proceeding.

Judge Smith partitioned the bond to reflect the severity of the dual charges. A bond of $100,000 was set for lewd and lascivious behavior. However, the judge assigned a $500,000 bond for the charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under the age of 12, citing its status as a life felony under Florida law.

Despite Duggar residing out of state, the court did not mandate electronic monitoring or a GPS tracking device as a condition of his release.

The court imposed rigorous restrictions on Duggar’s conduct pending trial. The primary condition forbids any contact with the accuser, now 14, who alleges the abuse occurred during a 2020 family trip to Panama City Beach.

Furthermore, Judge Smith issued a broad “no unsupervised contact” order regarding all minors under 18. According to court filings obtained by investigators, this restriction specifically includes:

  • Duggar’s four young children.
  • His two youngest siblings.
  • Any other minor in a private or public setting.

The criminal complaint stems from a forensic interview conducted by the Tontitown Police Department in Arkansas. The victim told detectives that when she was 9 years old, Duggar repeatedly used a blanket to conceal his actions while touching her thighs and genitals.

According to the arrest affidavit, the accuser felt “uncomfortable and confused” by the repeated incidents. Investigative documents further allege that Duggar eventually apologized to the victim. Following the forensic interview, law enforcement officials recorded a phone call in which Duggar reportedly admitted to the actions to the victim’s father and a detective.

Duggar has entered a written plea of not guilty to all charges. By waiving his formal arraignment, his legal team has signaled their intent to move directly toward a jury trial. Duggar remains free on bond while his defense prepares for the upcoming proceedings.
