Justin Timberlake has revealed he’s been quietly battling Lyme disease — an announcement that comes amid public criticism of his recent performances.

The 44-year-old singer shared the news in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday, July 31, telling fans he was diagnosed during his recently concluded Forget Tomorrow World Tour. Timberlake said he chose to speak out to offer context and promote understanding.

“I’ve been dealing with some health issues and was diagnosed with Lyme disease,” Timberlake wrote. “I’m not sharing this for sympathy, but to shed light on what I’ve been going through behind the scenes. If you or someone you love has faced this, you know how relentlessly debilitating it can be — physically and mentally.”

Timberlake admitted he was initially “shocked” by the diagnosis, but it helped explain the intense nerve pain, fatigue, and illness he experienced while on stage. He said those symptoms, compounded by injuries and illness earlier in the tour — including bronchitis, laryngitis, a back issue, and an ankle injury — made the performances increasingly difficult.

Still, he pushed through.

“I decided to keep going and figure it out. The joy performing brings me far outweighs the temporary stress on my body. I’m so glad I didn’t stop,” he said.

Lyme disease is transmitted through tick bites and may initially resemble the flu, with symptoms like fever, headaches, and joint pain. But if untreated, it can progress to serious issues such as nerve damage, brain fog, facial paralysis, and joint swelling.

Timberlake said he was hesitant to share his diagnosis, having been raised to “keep things like this to yourself,” but ultimately wanted to be transparent to prevent misunderstandings.

“I’m trying to be more open about my struggles. I hope this encourages others going through similar things and helps us all feel a little more connected.”

He ended the post with a heartfelt message to his wife, Jessica Biel, and their sons, Silas and Phin.

“To Jess, Silas, and Phin… your unconditional love is everything. You are my heart and my home. I’m on my way.”

Chris Kirkpatrick, Timberlake’s *NSYNC bandmate, shared his support on Instagram with a group photo alongside Lance Bass and JC Chasez.

“I always knew my little bro was tough, but watching him power through night after night despite Lyme disease was incredible. The travel, the exhaustion — no complaints, just heart and grit. That’s superhero stuff.”

He added, “I couldn’t be prouder. Here’s to strength, perseverance, and one unforgettable tour.”
