Karoline Leavitt is drawing widespread attention after sharing a private text conversation with a journalist on social media.

On Monday, Oct. 20, the 28-year-old White House Press Secretary posted a screenshot of a message exchange with HuffPost White House correspondent S.V. Dáte, revealing her sarcastic response to one of his questions about an upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In his text, Dáte asked whether Trump was “aware of the significance of Budapest,” after the 79-year-old leader chose Hungary’s capital as the location for his talks with Putin.

Leavitt replied, “Your mom did,” a response that quickly caught the internet’s attention.

When Dáte followed up by asking if she found the topic “funny,” Leavitt fired back: “It’s funny to me that you actually consider yourself a journal [sic].”

She continued the exchange by writing, “You are a far-left hack who nobody takes seriously, including your colleagues in the media—they just don’t tell you that to your face. Stop texting me your disingenuous, biased, and bulls— questions.”

Leavitt later posted the screenshot to X, adding, “For context, S.V. Dáte of the Huffington Post is not a journalist interested in the facts. He is a left-wing hack who has consistently attacked President Trump for years and constantly bombards my phone with Democrat talking points.”

She went on to describe Dáte as “anti-Trump,” encouraging her followers to “take a look at” his posts on X, and concluding, “Activists who masquerade as real reporters do a disservice to the profession.”

While her message criticized Dáte’s coverage, it was Leavitt’s quip about his mother that drew the most online reaction.

A screenshot of her post quickly spread across Reddit and other platforms, with users sharply divided in their reactions.

One commenter described the response as “horrifying,” writing, “They are everything we teach our kids not to be, unless MAGA is telling their kids this is all fine coming from our nation’s highest office? We are in hell.”

Another user added, “They are immature and childish bullies in adult bodies who make fart jokes. I don’t see how anyone can take them seriously.”

A third wrote, “This is also their JOB. Can you imagine talking like this with external business partners? It’s wild.”
