Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie has shared that he recently remarried, a little more than a year after the death of his wife of 31 years, Rhonda Howard Massie.

Massie, 54, a Republican from Garrison, Kentucky, announced his marriage to 36-year-old Carolyn Grace Moffa in a post on X on Monday, Nov. 3. “We were legally married in Kentucky on October 19th by the pastor of the church we have been attending for several months,” he wrote. “This weekend we celebrated with close friends and family at a Christian wedding ceremony in Pennsylvania, where Carolyn is from.”

The couple first met more than a decade ago when Moffa was working as an agriculture policy staffer for Senator Rand Paul, also from Kentucky. “She even visited me and my late wife, Rhonda, on our grass-fed cattle farm several years ago,” Massie recalled.

This is Moffa’s first marriage and Massie’s second. He married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda, in 1993. The two shared four adult children and three grandchildren. Reflecting on his late wife, Massie said, “I still miss [her] every day.”

Their relationship dated back to their teenage years. In 2020, Massie thanked Rhonda for joining him at the White House Congressional Christmas Ball — more than 30 years after they attended senior prom together. Rhonda died on June 27, 2024, at age 51. Though her family did not publicly share the cause of death, Massie quickly dismissed online conspiracy theories. Two weeks later, he wrote that the only “credible conspiracy” was how “a gorgeous girl who was a literal genius conspired to make a congressman, who would be steerable by no one but her, out of an awkward nerd by taking him as her boyfriend at age 16 and committing to decades of continuously molding him into something better.”

Massie shared that he and Moffa plan to live on his Kentucky homestead farm and travel back and forth to Washington, D.C., as needed. “Fun facts about our wedding,” he added. “Of course we served raw milk with the wedding cake and margaritas made with frozen peaches from our farm! Senator Rand Paul and Representatives Jim Jordan, Warren Davidson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Victoria Spartz attended; however, the real VIPs were my three grandkids. My oldest grandson was the ring bearer.”

He also revealed a sentimental detail: “I proposed to Carolyn on the steps of the Library of Congress, which was the location of our first date.” Massie concluded, “Please pray for us as Carolyn steps into the arena with me. With her support, I look forward to continuing my fight for freedom for the great people of Kentucky.”

Some of Massie’s congressional colleagues, including Paul and Greene, congratulated the newlyweds. Greene commented on his post, “Congratulations Thomas and Carolyn!! It was a beautiful wedding and a wonderful reception and celebration!! I’m so happy for you my friend!!”

Not everyone was supportive. Far-right activist Laura Loomer questioned the timing, writing, “Who gets married one year after their wife of 30 years passes away? Bizarre.”

Former President Donald Trump, who has previously clashed with Massie, has not commented on the marriage. In July, Trump called Massie “the worst Republican Congressman” on Truth Social, criticizing him for pushing to declassify the Epstein files and for voting against his “Big Beautiful Bill.” Trump wrote, “Thomas Massie, the worst Republican Congressman, and an almost guaranteed NO VOTE each and every time, is an embarrassment to Kentucky. He’s lazy, slow-moving, and totally disingenuous — a real loser! Looking for someone good to run against this guy, someone I can endorse and vigorously campaign for!”
