Kim Kardashian is continuing to chase her dream of becoming a lawyer — even after hitting a major hurdle.
In a video posted on Instagram, the 45-year-old shared the emotional and exhausting lead-up to the California bar exam, which determines whether she can officially practice law. She has since confirmed she did not pass.
“I’ve shared so much of this journey with you, and this summer I documented some of the final two weeks of studying — the ups, the downs, and everything in between,” she wrote in the caption. “On November 7th, I found out I didn’t pass the bar. It was disappointing, but it wasn’t the end. This dream means too much to me to walk away from, so I’m going to keep studying, keep learning, and keep showing up for myself until I get there.”
The video opens with Kardashian crying on her bed before cutting back to two weeks earlier. She shows the intensity of her study schedule — reviewing cases, meeting with professors, and preparing for the challenging exam composed of five one-hour essay questions, one 90-minute performance test, and 200 multiple-choice questions.
Her dedication took a physical toll as well. She injured her back during the process and dealt with painful “disc issues,” which made long hours of studying even more difficult. At one point, she admitted, “Every time I feel like I’m a step ahead, something happens to try to stop me from doing this… I just feel like my brain’s gonna explode and I still have so much more to go.”
Still, she refused to give up. With her four children away on vacation, she pushed through the final days of preparation. “I feel really good about everything,” she said confidently the day before the exam. “I feel prepared.”
Then, on Nov. 7 — the same day her new Hulu series All’s Fair premiered — she learned she hadn’t passed. In the show, she portrays a divorce lawyer who leaves a male-run firm to start her own practice with an all-female team.

After receiving the news, Kardashian wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Well… I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV. Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”
She ended with a message for her supporters: “Failing short isn’t failure — it’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivated me even more. Let’s go!”
