Washington: Prominent MAGA activist Laura Loomer stirred political speculation by predicting that three well-known conservatives—Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Rep. Thomas Massie—will defect from Donald Trump’s camp to join Elon Musk’s newly launched America Party.
Loomer made the bold claim on X (formerly Twitter), just hours after Trump signed the controversial “Big, Beautiful Bill” into law and Musk followed through on his threat to break away politically, announcing the creation of his own party.
“I predict Tucker Carlson, MTG, and Thomas Massie will join the new ‘America Party’ to spite President Trump,” Loomer posted.
Though all three have had ties to Trump’s movement, each has recently distanced themselves from key MAGA priorities—especially the bill that has triggered Musk’s political rebellion.
Fallout and Fractures
Loomer has previously labeled Carlson a “fake Trump supporter,” and Marjorie Taylor Greene faced MAGA backlash after voicing support for Musk’s criticism of the bill. Massie, one of Musk’s few congressional allies, was one of only two Republicans to vote against Trump’s massive spending package, joining House Democrats in opposition. Trump later blasted Massie as a “pathetic loser.”
Now, all three are being floated as potential founding figures in Musk’s political challenge to the GOP.
Musk Declares Independence
Musk, formerly one of Trump’s biggest financial backers in the 2024 race, broke ranks after a bitter dispute over federal spending. As head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk had pushed to slash federal payrolls and cut spending—only to see Trump embrace a multi-trillion dollar domestic spending plan that Musk called fiscally reckless.
In protest, Musk resigned from the administration in May, and after teasing a political alternative for weeks, finally announced the launch of the America Party on Saturday, July 5—one day after the bill was signed.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk wrote. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Public Backing and Online Momentum
Musk’s decision followed a viral July 4 poll he posted on X, asking Americans whether they wanted “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.” The results were decisive: more than 1.2 million responses, with 2-to-1 in favor of creating a new political party.
“You want a new political party—and you shall have it!” Musk declared.
He also shared a meme of a two-headed snake labeled “End the Uniparty,” echoing his frequent claim that Democrats and Republicans are functionally the same when it comes to corruption and spending.
What’s Next?
While Musk hasn’t announced specific candidates or platforms yet, his references to centrism, AI leadership, military modernization, and debt reduction suggest he intends to position the America Party as a tech-forward alternative to traditional politics.
Whether Carlson, Greene, or Massie actually defect remains to be seen, but the mere suggestion reflects deepening fractures inside the MAGA movement—and a possible realignment of the American right around Musk’s growing political influence.
