Lily Allen opened up with raw honesty about her reproductive history during the June 30 episode of her podcast Miss Me?, which she co-hosts with longtime friend Miquita Oliver.
Now 40, the “Smile” singer spoke about her experiences before getting an intrauterine device (IUD), revealing that unplanned pregnancies were once a recurring issue for her.
“I have an IUD now — I think I’m on my third or fourth — and before that, it was just a disaster zone,” Allen admitted. “I’d get pregnant all the time.”
Oliver expressed surprise, prompting Allen to break into a cheeky parody of Frank Sinatra’s My Way:
“Abortions, I’ve had a few, but then again, I can’t remember exactly how many,” she sang with a laugh.
Allen then confessed that she genuinely can’t recall the number of abortions she’s had, estimating “maybe four or five.”
She also shared a particularly memorable story:
“I remember once getting pregnant and the man paid for my abortion, and I thought it was so romantic,” she recalled. “I’ll tell you how romantic it was — I don’t think he even texted me after!”
Oliver, echoing Allen’s openness, said she believed she’d had “about five” abortions herself and credited her IUD with dramatically changing her life.
“The pattern would be: unfortunately get pregnant, not want to be, have an abortion, and while I was sedated, they’d give me a coil,” Oliver said. “And then at some point, I’d get it removed — I can’t quite remember why.”
Allen has long been vocal about reproductive rights. In 2022, she received praise after posting candid reflections on abortion access via Instagram Stories.
“I wish people would stop posting examples of exceptional reasons for having abortions,” she wrote. “Most people I know, myself included, just didn’t want to have a f—ing baby. And that is reason enough! We don’t have to justify it.”
Today, Allen is a mother of two daughters — Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12 — whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper.
