A maid of honor says she barely recognizes the “self-absorbed bridezilla” her best friend has become — and she’s unsure whether their relationship will recover.
In a post on Reddit’s “Bridezillas” forum, the maid of honor asked for advice on how to confront the bride, explaining that her friend’s behavior has changed dramatically since wedding planning began.
“Over the last six months, the bride has become increasingly more and more self-centered and closed off to me,” she wrote.
The maid of honor said that at bridal party events, the bride barely interacts with her. Even when they spend time together outside of wedding activities, the bride “doesn’t talk to” her. She can’t remember the last time her friend reached out just to check in — unless she needed help.
“She refuses to talk to me,” she added. “It’s always a brief hello and then a goodbye. I am lucky if I get a 15-second conversation.”
While she understands that wedding planning can be stressful and overwhelming — especially because she’s also engaged — she admitted it’s hard not to take the constant dismissal personally. She’s spent significant time and money supporting the bride, including helping with engagement party preparations, but says her effort goes largely unnoticed.

“What hurts is that I’ve done so much … But it barely gets acknowledged. All while she sits back and does nothing,” she wrote.
The maid of honor said she’s come to terms with the fact that her friend won’t return the same level of support. What she can’t accept, she explained, is being treated like someone who only matters when there’s a task to complete.
“She ghosts my texts too, and only calls or reaches out when she wants something,” she said. “Every time in the last two months I tried to catch up to help her with wedding prep — she kept postponing, cutting short the time, coming late, or not responding to the texts. And the one time I did, she made me do work for her teaching job and glue kids’ work. I am just sick of it.”
Now, she feels their friendship is on the line. She said the kind words she planned to share in her reception speech no longer feel honest, and she’s exhausted from “not even getting treated like a decent human being” after giving so much.

In the comments, many readers agreed the bride’s behavior was unfair. Several suggested stepping down as maid of honor — and some went further, encouraging her to walk away from the friendship entirely.
One highly upvoted commenter argued that no wedding is worth sacrificing real relationships, noting that some couples “ruin their relationships” over “a ONE DAY celebration,” then feel confused when friends leave.
Others urged her to stop allowing the bride to take advantage of her and to set clear boundaries — including saying no, becoming less available, and prioritizing her own needs. One commenter advised that the next time the bride reaches out, she should simply be “busy,” ignore non-urgent messages, and leave situations where she’s being treated like unpaid labor — without overexplaining or apologizing.
