An 18-year-old University of Missouri student, Maxwell Warren, has been charged with multiple counts of assault and burglary after allegedly attacking a fellow student who blocked him on Snapchat.
Warren faces charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree domestic assault, second-degree domestic assault, and fourth-degree domestic assault.
According to a probable cause statement, Warren allegedly went to the victim’s dorm room on Sept. 26 to confront them about blocking him on Snapchat. When the victim slightly opened the door, Warren allegedly forced his way inside, shoved the student against a bed, and wrapped his hands around their neck.
“While Warren strangled [the victim], he stated, ‘What do you think you are doing? You need to add me back right now,’” the report claims. “This incident left a red mark that appeared to have the imprint of a hand.”
The victim reportedly unblocked Warren on Snapchat after the incident.

Two days later, Warren allegedly sent the victim a message on Instagram saying, “I remember getting really upset once or twice when I choked you,” followed by another message: “I feel awful. U deserve so much better.”
On Sept. 30, while chatting again on Snapchat, the victim brought up the earlier assault. According to the statement, the victim said, “Yeah, and you put your hands on me.” Warren allegedly replied, “I would do it again, I …ing hate you, I would gladly beat your ass.”
A month later, on Oct. 29, Warren allegedly visited the victim again. After the victim rejected his advances, he became “frustrated” and allegedly strangled the student a second time, causing them to briefly lose consciousness. The victim then told him not to make further contact.
In a separate probable cause statement, Warren was also accused of pushing another person to the ground in a university parking lot on Oct. 29. A passerby in a pickup truck reportedly intervened, allowing the victim to leave safely.
University spokesperson Christopher Ave told The Kansas City Star that Warren has been banned from campus “pending further investigation into the allegations surrounding the criminal charges against him.” Ave added that “the university does not tolerate acts of violence and holds accountable anyone found to violate the law or university policies.”
Warren has pleaded not guilty. A bond hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10, and a preliminary hearing for Dec. 9. His attorney has not been reached for comment.
