Man Demands Wife Cook ‘Elaborate’ Meals Whenever He’s Hungry — Even Past Midnight

A newly married woman turned to Reddit for advice after clashing with her husband over his expectations around late-night meals.

In her post, she explained that married life is “going well” overall, except for what she described as her husband’s “weird” eating habits.

“I primarily cook in our relationship and I enjoy it but my husband demands that I cook elaborate meals for him late at night. I’m talking gnocchi and pies and meat wraps… It wouldn’t be a problem but I get tired after working all day and it just drains me to cook at midnight,” she wrote.

When she tried to raise the issue “nicely,” her husband defended his expectations by saying that “his mom used to cook his late night snacks,” so he “expects” her to do the same because “he is used to that eating schedule.”

She said he “seemed annoyed” that she brought it up at all, and she started to worry that “this is a red line for him.”

“It caused a fight and I told him I’m not doing it anymore. He now seems very distant,” she added.

The woman ended her post by asking whether she was overreacting or justified in refusing to cook whenever her husband gets hungry late at night.

Commenters overwhelmingly supported her decision and questioned why her husband couldn’t simply cook for himself “at night if he wants it so badly.”

“Yeah I see nothing in this post that indicates he’s incapable of being able to make food himself. If he wants food like mummy made then he can go to back home to his parents and stay there,” one person wrote.

Another commenter was equally blunt: “What is it with grown men using their mothers in arguments with their wives! You should not see your mum and wife in the same way. He needs to get a grip and cook for himself. You are not his maid.”
