TUCSON, Ariz. — The man at the center of a high-profile SWAT raid linked to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is speaking out, vehemently denying any involvement in the presumed abduction of the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

Luke Daley, 37, was detained on Feb. 13 after tactical teams descended on the Tucson home he shares with his 77-year-old mother. The residence is located approximately two miles from where Nancy Guthrie vanished on Feb. 1. Despite being held for several hours during the execution of two search warrants, both Daley and his mother were released without charges.

“It’s Not Me”: Daley Responds to Social Media Speculation

In an exclusive interview with True Crime Arizona released Monday, March 2, Daley addressed the intense public scrutiny that led investigators to his doorstep. He attributes the police interest to a wave of social media speculation suggesting he resembled a masked, armed individual captured on Nest doorbell footage the night of the disappearance.

“It’s not me. I don’t see the resemblance,” Daley told host Briana Whitney. “Absolutely not. I have nothing to do with this case. Someone says something and then they just go off of it based on no evidence, no truth.”

Daley’s attorney, Chris Scileppi, reiterated his client’s innocence, stating that Daley has “no link whatsoever” to the victim and remains hopeful for her safe return.

The Timeline of a Disappearance

The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts began on the morning of Feb. 1, 2026, when family members called 911 at 12:03 p.m. after she failed to attend a virtual church service.

Key forensic milestones in the case include:

  • 1:47 a.m.: Guthrie’s doorbell camera is manually disconnected.
  • 2:12 a.m.: A dark figure is detected walking toward the residence.
  • 2:28 a.m.: Guthrie’s pacemaker is disconnected from its synchronized smartphone app.
  • 2:36 a.m.: Newly surfaced Ring footage from a neighbor 2.5 miles away shows a vehicle speeding through the area.

Investigative Focus on Physical Evidence

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI Phoenix office have centered their search on an unidentified male suspect described as 5’9” to 5’10” with an average build. A critical piece of evidence is a black, 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack worn by the assailant, a model frequently sold at Walmart.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously identified the backpack as one of the most promising leads in the month-long investigation. However, as the search approaches the 30-day mark, authorities have yet to name a formal suspect or make an arrest.

A Community on Edge and a Massive Reward

The Guthrie family has demonstrated a relentless commitment to finding Nancy, recently announcing a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery. This is in addition to a $100,000 reward offered by the FBI. The family also pledged $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

As the Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to “refocus resources,” the investigation remains active. Law enforcement continues to urge residents to review surveillance footage from Jan. 11 and Jan. 31 for any suspicious activity that may have preceded the abduction.
