A 65-year-old man has died after falling 130 feet from the western side of the Grand Canyon, according to officials.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue department recovered the man’s body on Thursday, Nov. 6, after he reportedly slipped and fell over the edge. The rescue team worked alongside the Hualapai Nation to retrieve his body, which was found about 130 feet below near Guano Point.
Multiple agencies assisted in the recovery effort, including the Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security. Crews used ropes to lift the man’s body from the rocky area at the bottom of the canyon. Afterward, the body was transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office. The man’s identity has not yet been released.

The incident occurred just weeks after another fatal fall at the Grand Canyon. In September, a 27-year-old man died when his vehicle went over a rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead in Grand Canyon National Park.
The National Park Service (NPS) said the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report around 12:40 p.m. local time on Sept. 7 regarding a vehicle with a single occupant that had gone over the edge. Park rangers responded and recovered the body, which was located approximately 300 feet below the rim. It was transported by helicopter to the rim and later taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The victim in that case was identified as Steven (Drew) Bradley, 27, of Federal Heights, Colorado, according to the NPS. Officials did not release additional details about the cause of the crash but included contact information for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for anyone experiencing distress or needing support.
