An Indiana man has been found guilty in the February 2025 killing of his wife, a case prosecutors tied to a heated confrontation that began on Valentine’s Day and escalated into deadly violence.

Taylor Meyer, 35, was charged in the days after his wife was killed in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on Feb. 14, 2025, according to online court records.

The victim, Deborah Meyer, 36, was identified through a probable-cause affidavit cited by local news outlets and in an online obituary.

What investigators say happened

According to the affidavit, Taylor Meyer told police he had planned a Valentine’s Day celebration and felt slighted when he believed Deborah didn’t appreciate it, WHAS 11, WLKY and WDRB reported.

The affidavit states that Deborah left home briefly for about 20 minutes that evening. When she returned, the couple argued after she refused to let him look through her phone, according to the outlets.

Meyer claimed she struck him, and investigators say he then choked her and stabbed her 40 times in the chest.

During the attack, he allegedly called a man he suspected Deborah was involved with and blamed him for what was happening. The affidavit describes Meyer telling the man, “It’s your … fault. You want to ruin my marriage and tear my family apart,” WDRB reported.

Authorities also alleged Meyer took photos of Deborah on the ground and shared them in a family group chat, claiming he had killed her. Police said he also sent the photos and message to her friends.

Remembering Deborah Meyer

In her obituary, Deborah was described as an award-winning nurse and a mother of three children. It was not immediately clear whether Taylor Meyer is the children’s father.

She was remembered for her humor and what the obituary described as “inappropriate shenanigans,” along with her “contagious laughter, bright smile, limitless love, and unwavering loyalty.” The obituary added that she was “strong-willed, full of life, and unapologetically herself.”

Trial outcome and what’s next

Online court records show Meyer pleaded not guilty to murder. A jury convicted him on Thursday, Jan. 29, after deliberating for about two hours following a six-day trial, WHAS 11 reported.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 20.
