Three people were killed in a shooting outside a Target store in Texas, according to local officials.

The Austin Police Department responded to a shooting at the Target on 8601 Research Boulevard in North Austin just after 2 p.m. on Monday, August 11.

Police said they were looking for a suspect wearing khaki shorts and a floral print t-shirt. Within an hour, they announced the suspect had been caught.

At a press conference, police identified the suspect as a 32-year-old man. He stole a car from the scene and drove away, but then crashed it. After that, he stole another car from a dealership before police caught and arrested him in South Austin, according to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis.

Officers used a stun gun to subdue the suspect before taking him into custody.

One of the victims who was shot is believed to be the driver of the car stolen outside the Target, Davis said.

“This is a very sad day for Austin,” she said. She also mentioned that the suspect has a history of mental health problems.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said an investigation is still ongoing. He expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims and called the shooting “a sickening, cowardly act of gun violence.”

He thanked the police and first responders for their quick work in catching the suspect.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
