Man Says Roommate Eats All His Groceries Before He Has a Chance to Even ‘Touch Them’

Almost everyone has had roommate problems, and one Reddit user shared his struggle with a roommate who keeps eating his food without asking.

“It started with small things like grabbing a snack or using a little milk, but now full meals or groceries I bought are gone before I even get to them. I’ve tried dropping hints and even labeling some of my food, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference,” he wrote in his post.

He says it’s not just about the money, though he admits “it adds up,” but more about “the disrespect of not asking first.”

“I budget carefully for my groceries, and it’s frustrating to open the fridge and see that what I planned for dinner is gone,” he added. “When I bring it up, they brush it off or say they’ll replace it, but half the time they don’t.”

The man wondered if he was “overreacting for being this annoyed” or if it was a “valid reason to be upset with my roommate.”

People in the comments agreed that his frustration was understandable and suggested having a serious conversation about boundaries.

“You have very valid reasons to be upset. The first thing I’d do is just talk to your roommate and ask them to not touch your food. Hints don’t work, so you have to be straightforward,” one person wrote. “If that doesn’t work, I’d get a box with a lock for the fridge and pantry to keep my groceries safe, because it’s a big deal: you budget carefully, and your roommate eats your food without replacing it half the time.”

Another person added, “Been there, done that. I bought a small fridge and kept my food in my room. You can get one at Walmart or Lowes.”
