First Lady Melania Trump posted a triumphant message on X Thursday following Democratic strategist James Carville’s retraction of disputed allegations, which her legal team had challenged.
Carville began his latest episode of the Politics War Room podcast with a formal legal disclaimer, setting aside his usual conversational style to address the controversy directly.
“In last week’s podcast episode, we spoke with Judd Legum,” Carville explained. “After the episode, we received a letter from Melania Trump’s lawyer. He took issue with our title on one of the YouTube videos from that episode and a couple of comments I made about the first lady. We reviewed their concerns, removed the video, and edited out those remarks from the episode. I also retract those statements and apologize.”
Melania Trump highlighted this apology by sharing a screenshot of the transcript alongside a crossed-out image of the video titled, The Epstein connection: Trump & Melania.
The dispute centered on Carville’s portrayal of how Melania Trump met her future husband.
Nick Clemens, an aide to the first lady, told Fox News Digital, “First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods. The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book, Melania.”
Last week, The Daily Beast removed an article featuring journalist Michael Wolff’s allegations that Melania was introduced to Donald Trump through a modeling agent linked to Jeffrey Epstein, following legal challenges from the first lady’s lawyers.
The outlet replaced the article with an Editor’s Note stating, “After this story was published, The Beast received a letter from First Lady Melania Trump’s attorney challenging the headline and framing of the article. After reviewing the matter, the Beast has taken down the article and apologizes for any confusion or misunderstanding.”
