An Alabama man with an extensive criminal record has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison after prosecutors said he beat and r*ped a woman he was dating.
Corey Oliver, 41, of Thorsby, received a life sentence without the possibility of parole on Dec. 3, according to a statement from 19th Circuit District Attorney CJ Robinson.
Robinson said a jury convicted Oliver in July in connection with the r*pe. Prosecutors said Oliver assaulted the woman after beating and strangling her at knifepoint.
Officials also noted Oliver’s long history in the criminal justice system. Robinson said Oliver has more than 10 prior felony convictions and roughly 40 arrests, beginning with drug and property offenses and later escalating to violent sexual crimes.
“Corey Oliver had been a menace for my 18-year career,” Robinson said in the statement following the Dec. 3 sentencing. He added that Oliver had previously avoided accountability in cases where authorities suspected victims were intimidated and later declined to proceed or changed their accounts during legal proceedings.
Robinson also praised the judge for imposing the maximum sentence, saying the ruling ensured Oliver would not have another opportunity to harm women or children.
AL.com reported that the 2018 r*pe was not brought to the district attorney’s office’s attention until 2024, which later led to Oliver’s indictment.
Robinson said his office worked with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and emphasized that they were determined to ensure Oliver’s “path of destruction” was “finally over.”
