Michelle Obama has been leaning into a high-fashion run lately, stepping out on her book tour for The Look in a stream of Spring/Summer 2026 pieces—ranging from Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel to Simone Rocha, Prada, and Loewe—styled by Meredith Koop. But for Christmas Eve, she switched gears from the newest runway to a standout from the archives: an Alexander McQueen dress from 2005.
Posing beside Barack Obama, the former first lady wore a lacy little black dress from McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2005 collection. The design featured crochet-like detailing, a scoop neckline, and an inverted basque-waist shape that opened into a midi skirt flaring at the knees. The dress’s clear straps were mostly hidden beneath a cozy black bolero with a turtleneck and long sleeves. She finished the look with braided hair parted down the middle, smiling next to Barack, who kept things monochrome with an all-black outfit topped off by a tan jacket.
Sharing a photo on her Instagram, she offered holiday wishes in the caption: “Merry Christmas. Barack and I send you our heartfelt wishes for a blessed holiday and joyful start to the new year.”
Released in November, The Look reflects on her relationship with fashion and beauty through photos and essays, tracing her style evolution from her years in the White House through her post–First Lady life. She co-wrote the coffee-table book with Koop.
