Missing Man, 60, Found Dead at Nature Park After 2-Day Search, Family Said He Was ‘Critically Ill’ at Time of Disappearance

A 60-year-old man reported missing in Alabama has been found dead following a two-day search.

Marcus Warren Ian Baker, of Birmingham, was found deceased in Ruffner Mountain Park on Friday, Jan. 8, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), as reported by WVTM 13, CBS 42 and ABC 33.

Authorities said Baker was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:01 p.m. local time, according to ABC 33.

Baker was last seen by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Relatives told investigators he was “critically ill” at the time he disappeared, the JCSO said, according to WVTM 13. A “Missing and Endangered Person” alert was issued for Baker on Wednesday, Jan. 7, and search efforts in the area included the use of a police dog that same day, WVTM 13 reported.

Baker’s death remains under investigation. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy was scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9, to determine the official cause of death, according to CBS 42.
