A Missouri man has been charged in the killing of his 81-year-old grandmother and the stabbing of her two French bulldogs.
Ronald Allred, 37, was charged Monday, Dec. 29, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Fannie Allred. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of animal abuse, according to online court records.
St. Louis County police responded to the 8500 block of Jenny Drive just before 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, after Fannie’s daughter found her mother unresponsive, face down on the floor, and surrounded by blood, according to a criminal complaint.
Investigators allege Fannie was stabbed six times in the head, neck, and chest.
The victim’s two French bulldogs were also stabbed during the attack but are expected to survive, the complaint states.
Authorities say Allred had been at the home earlier that morning and spent the night there. He fled the scene and was later found at a gas station in the 4500 block of Union Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m.
Following a two-hour standoff with police, Allred was taken into custody without incident. He also faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.
During a subsequent police interview, Allred confessed to the stabbings, according to the complaint.
Family members described Fannie as a beloved figure in her community. “She was like the matriarch of the family,” her son Ronald Allred Jr. told KSDK. “She’s been in her neighborhood more than 20 years. Everybody knew her and looked out for her.”
“She was one of the most beautiful souls you’d ever meet,” added her son Marvin Allred. “There was nothing she wouldn’t do for you. This feels like a nightmare.”
Fannie previously worked at Northwest Rehab Center and was a cancer survivor, KSDK reported.
Allred is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. It remains unclear whether he has entered a plea or retained an attorney. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26.
