An Ohio mom thought she was filming a heart-melting sibling moment — until she replayed the video and caught the real scene-stealer.
Christie Garland, 25, had pulled out her phone to record what looked like a sweet interaction between her sons: newborn Koa, whom she welcomed a few weeks ago, and Luca, 23 months. Luca was hugging and kissing his baby brother, and everything seemed picture-perfect.
But when Christie watched the clip back with her husband and parents — who appear in the background — she spotted Luca’s dramatic side-eye and couldn’t stop laughing. She says the whole family found it hilarious.
In a TikTok video set to the Game and 50 Cent’s “Hate It or Love It,” Christie leaned into the moment, adding text that read, “pov: mom comes home with a new sibling.” She captioned it, “he woke up and chose violence #brothers #twoundertwo #newborn #funnyvideos.”
Posted on Dec. 8, the video quickly took off, racking up more than 9 million views and 1.4 million likes.
Despite the unimpressed expression, Christie says Luca has actually been thrilled about becoming a big brother. She shares her sons with her husband, Mason Garland, 24, and says Luca’s excitement started surprisingly early.

“He actually knew I was pregnant before I did,” she recalls. One day, Luca kissed her belly and said, “Hi, baby.” She brushed it off — until she found out three weeks later that he’d been right. From then on, she says, he regularly kissed her belly and would talk and sing to his baby brother.
Christie believes the way she and her husband talked about the new baby helped set the tone. They made a point to speak positively about the idea of Luca having a brother and how much fun they’d have together. They also gave Luca a “gift from the baby” — a Tonie box — which, she says, made him even more excited and helped the transition feel instantly special.

Now that Koa is home, Christie says Luca has done the opposite of what many parents fear. While the side-eye makes for a great joke — especially given how often people warn about jealousy — she says that hasn’t been their reality at all.
According to Christie, Luca is “obsessed” with his little brother, constantly asking to hold him and showering him with kisses. As far as jealousy goes, she jokes, the only evidence so far is the famous side-eye caught on camera.
