A Florida mom went into the birth of her third child fully prepared to welcome what she jokingly called a “giant baby” — and instead met one of the tiniest little surprises of her life.

Sophie Geraci, 26, says she and her doctors were convinced her third baby, daughter Anastazja, would be on the bigger side. A history of larger babies, plus how her pregnancy was progressing, had everyone expecting another hefty newborn.

“At all of my growth scans, I was told she was measuring ahead of schedule,” Sophie recalls. “My first and second babies had also been on the larger side — 80th percentile or higher — and my doctors explained that babies often get bigger with each pregnancy. Based on the measurements and my history, they consistently prepared me for another large baby.”

Sophie’s older two children, daughter Rosalie, 23 months, and son Leonardo, 3, both weighed more than 8½ lbs. at birth. That pattern made it even easier to assume baby number three would follow suit.

“What’s funny is that in both my family and my husband’s family, neither of our mothers ever had babies over 7½ pounds,” she says. “So hearing that both my first and second babies were estimated — and then born — over 8 pounds was shocking to all of us and reinforced the idea that this third baby would also be large.”

Concerned about how carrying and delivering another big baby might affect her body, Sophie decided to schedule a C-section. Still, nothing could have prepared her and her husband, Maksimilian, 27, for what happened when they finally saw their daughter.

“I remember lying on the table, and my jaw literally dropped,” she says. “My doctor even held her up like Simba from The Lion King, and before they weighed her, I could already tell.”

Instead of the “giant” everyone expected, Sophie met a petite little girl.

“She was tiny,” she says. “The first thing I said to my husband was, ‘Holy s—. She’s so small and has so much hair!’”

In an Instagram Reel shared in October, the now-mom of three joked about her supposed “giant baby,” who actually weighed just 5 lbs., 7 oz. Hearing the official number after months of high growth estimates felt surreal.

“I had to deliver early due to some complications, but my last growth scan had estimated her at around 8 lbs. So hearing her actual weight felt unbelievable,” Sophie explains. “We ended up buying a whole set of preemie clothes and diapers, and she stayed in preemie sizes for the first four weeks.”

Now, at 4 months old, Sophie says Anastazja is doing “really well.” While she’s still working through her own recovery, she’s grateful that her baby is thriving.

“We’re doing really well. I’m still pretty sore from the C-section, and recovery has been a bit harder this time since it was my second one. But my daughter is thriving,” she says. “She’s a little behind because of her adjusted age, but she’s growing beautifully.”

Proud of how far her little girl has come, Sophie adds, “She’s happy, healthy, and the sweetest — and clingiest — of all three of my babies.”
