A Kentucky mother has admitted guilt in the tragic drowning death of her infant.
Amber Winstead, 36, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Friday, Oct. 31, according to court records cited by local news outlets WHAS 11, WLKY, and WDRB.
Authorities reported that Winstead’s 3-month-old baby drowned in a Louisville motel bathtub on New Year’s Day. Winstead told investigators she had taken drugs that day and fell asleep while bathing with her baby, according to WDRB.
When she awoke several hours later, the infant was found submerged and unresponsive in the water, officials said, per WLKY.
Winstead’s attorney told the court that she is nearing completion of a drug treatment program and requested that she be placed under house arrest until her sentencing in December, WLKY reported.
