Mom Stumbles Upon Wishing Well During a Walk. The Next Day, She Got What She Asked for Thanks to Huge Lottery Win

A simple stroll led to an unexpectedly perfect payoff for one U.K. mom — just a day after she made a wish.

Rebecca Hulatt, 43, recently won £250,000 (about $340,000) through the U.K.’s National Lottery Instant Win Game.

Hulatt, a nurse, told lottery officials the moment that set everything in motion happened during a walk in the Peak District with her 19-year-old son, Brandon — a walk they only took because his car broke down.

“Before Brandon met up with his friends, we went for a walk and came across a little wishing well tucked away on the trail,” she said. “We both threw in 50p. He wished for a new car, I wished to come into some money.”

The very next day, after a long hospital shift, Hulatt said she decided to relax by playing a National Lottery Instant Win Game — and immediately saw she’d won.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” she added.

Her first major purchase was an Audi A1 for Brandon, who had been getting by with an older vehicle.

“To think that both our wishes came true at the same time is just unbelievable,” Hulatt said. “The Peak District already held special memories for us, but now it feels like the most magical place in the world.”

A longtime racing fan, Hulatt also told lottery officials she’s excited to spend more time at the tracks with her son. And she’s already making plans at home, too: she’s put in an offer on a larger house with more green space.

“Having a garden of my own feels like such a dream. I can’t wait to stretch my green fingers again and just spend time outdoors at home,” she said. “It will be wonderful to have friends and family over, sit in the sunshine, and finally enjoy gardening properly. It’s something I’ve longed to do for years.”
