Brooke Leggett is facing criticism online after revealing her unconventional approach to Halloween treats for her children.

In a TikTok video, the mom — who posts as @leggett_brooke — began by admitting, “I’m not a fun mom,” before showing what she plans to include in her kids’ Halloween baskets this year. Rather than the usual candy bars, Leggett said her children “will not be eating the loads of crap” found in typical treats, opting instead for what she calls “healthier options.”

She prepared one basket for her 3-year-old daughter and another for her cousin’s child, explaining that her 1-year-old “is not gonna eat half this stuff.” Leggett then guided viewers through her selections, highlighting organic and natural ingredient choices.

“Starting up strong with ghost cheddar puffs,” she said, describing them as “organic” with “very natural ingredients.” She also added Halloween-themed Bobos oat bars, calling them “so cute” and “simple.”

The baskets featured organic snacks and dye-free sweets such as Yum Earth lollipops and Annie’s gummy bats. Leggett explained that she’s aiming for treats without “the preservatives and the crunchy bulls—, whatever.” Additional items included plant-based bars, no-sugar-added applesauce pouches with “cute” Frankenstein packaging, and chocolate from Trader Joe’s. Though she didn’t check every ingredient, she said, “It makes me feel better that it’s from Trader Joe’s.”

To finish, she added fruit leather chains made from “blueberry puree, apple puree concentrate and date paste,” joking, “Healthy, fun. Yay. I seem like a fun mom.” She also shared plans to make homemade peanut butter cups in pumpkin molds, saying, “I’m gonna be making homemade Reese’s.”

For her youngest, Leggett kept things simple: “She’s probably gonna get an applesauce, and she’s gonna get one of these tractor wheels, and she’s gonna be happy as pie,” she said with a smile.

Many viewers, however, felt her approach missed the spirit of Halloween. One commenter wrote, “I mean, I’m all for healthy eating but life is about balance. Halloween is a fun time to enjoy candy.” Another added, “Just let the kids be kids for 1 day a year.” A third simply said, “May this mindset never find me.”

Some also questioned why Leggett allows her kids to go trick-or-treating if they aren’t allowed to eat the candy they collect. “Halloween candy is expensive as is all that just for it to be thrown away is insane and it’s just one [day] out of the year,” one person noted.

Others suggested an alternative: “Maybe instead of taking them trick or treating and seeing all the candy in their bags that they don’t get to eat,” a viewer commented, “I would instead make your healthy versions of treats with them on Halloween and then watch kid Halloween movies.”

In a follow-up video, Leggett responded to the backlash, saying, “Y’all really watched me put gummies, chips, chocolates, lollipops, chips, candies and other snacks into a bag and you’re pressed about what brand it is? Touch some grass.”
