A 34-year-old Florida man is in custody after allegedly holding an Orlando woman and her 3-year-old child captive during their first in-person meeting. Saady Mijail Castellanos Triminio faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and battery, following a harrowing early-morning rescue by Miami police on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The incident underscores the growing risks associated with digital dating platforms, as investigators reveal the suspect allegedly lured the victim from Orlando to Miami under the guise of a birthday celebration before blocking her exit and seizing her phone.
From Digital Dating to False Imprisonment
According to an arrest affidavit, the victim and Castellanos Triminio connected on Facebook Dating approximately two weeks prior to the incident. After a series of video calls, the suspect reportedly offered to purchase the woman a ticket to Miami to celebrate his birthday.
The victim arrived in Miami on Friday with her daughter, expecting a first date at a local restaurant. Instead, the affidavit states that Castellanos Triminio picked them up, ordered pizza, and took them directly to his residence.
The atmosphere shifted rapidly once inside. The victim told investigators she began feeling “uneasy” and declined the suspect’s advances. When she attempted to collect her belongings to leave, Castellanos Triminio allegedly claimed it was “too dangerous” to depart before physically blocking the exit.
The Escalation and Emergency Rescue
The situation turned violent when the victim attempted to contact a friend for help. Police reports indicate that:
- Physical Confrontation: Castellanos Triminio allegedly seized the woman’s phone. When she began to scream, he reportedly covered her mouth until she could no longer breathe.
- The Escape: The woman managed to retreat to a separate room with her child, where she successfully dialed a friend.
- The 911 Call: That friend alerted authorities, maintaining a line of communication with the victim while police were dispatched to the residence at approximately 2:45 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they directed the friend to tell the victim to make noise so they could pinpoint her location within the building. As Castellanos Triminio opened the door to authorities, the woman’s screams for help led to his immediate detention and her subsequent rescue.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Castellanos Triminio has been booked on a comprehensive list of charges, reflecting the gravity of the allegations involving both an adult and a minor:
- Kidnapping
- Robbery (related to the seizure of the victim’s phone)
- Child Neglect
- Battery by Strangulation
Online court records confirm that Castellanos Triminio has entered a plea of not guilty. He remains in custody as the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office prepares its case.
Safety in the Digital Age
This case serves as a stark reminder for users of dating applications to exercise extreme caution when transitioning from digital to physical meetings. Safety experts recommend meeting in public spaces for the first several encounters and never traveling to a private residence with a stranger, particularly in a different city.
