Authorities in Massachusetts say a woman died after being trapped between her SUV and another vehicle while she was checking on her infant.

According to a statement from the Lawrence Police Department, the tragic incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 9. The victim had parked her 2015 Honda CR-V on Currier Street in Lawrence, stepped out, and walked around the car to tend to her baby.

Moments later, the SUV began rolling backward. Police said the woman tried to stop it but became pinned between her Honda and another car.

“She was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was declared deceased,” the Lawrence Police Department reported.

Authorities said the infant was also taken to the hospital but was not injured.

Family members identified the victim as Sujey Bernabel, 37, according to ABC affiliate WCVB.

Neighbor Francelys Bonilla told the outlet, “I started praying for her. I saw the cops and the firefighters trying to get her back to life, and unfortunately she couldn’t make it.”

The Lawrence Police Department, along with the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the MSP Crime Scene Services Section, are investigating the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family,” the police department said in its statement.
