A woman whose body was recovered from a canal in Altrincham, England, on Dec. 10 has been identified as Jana Bahvalova, a 29-year-old mother of two who was reported missing two days earlier, according to Manchester Evening News.
Bahvalova was reported missing on Dec. 8 after she did not arrive to pick up her daughters, Adelina and Kate, from their babysitter.
Two days later, at around 8:30 a.m., emergency services were called to the Bridgewater Canal after a body was spotted in the water. Police and other responders attended the scene and cordoned off a section of the canal to allow specialist teams to carry out a search, Altrincham News reported.
Greater Manchester Police are investigating her death, The Mirror reported.
A GoFundMe page set up on Sunday, Dec. 14 by Bahvalova’s sister is seeking donations to help cover funeral costs. In the fundraiser’s description, Bahvalova is remembered as a “devoted mother” who raised her two daughters on her own.
“She raised them on her own, always doing everything she could to provide a safe, loving and stable home,” the post reads. “Those who knew Jana remember her as a quiet, kind and gentle soul. Her daughters were her entire world, and everything she did was for them.”
Bahvalova worked as a hotel cleaner and was described as hardworking, reliable and humble, the fundraiser states.
