The mother of a 5-year-old Louisiana boy who was allegedly struck and killed by his grandmother is speaking out as she continues to grieve.
In a post shared to Facebook with Ryan Lawson on Wednesday, Nov. 12, Abi Combs released her first public statement following the death of their son, Carson Lawson. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday morning, Nov. 11, while the child was waiting in their driveway for his school bus.
“There is absolutely nothing in this world that I could say to truly express the sorrow I will now and forever have in my heart,” she wrote.
Confirming the devastating news, Combs said, “Yesterday morning, my baby boy, Carson passed away. My baby boy is gone.”
She described his passing — and the circumstances surrounding it — as “the most traumatic and devastating scenario I have ever had to endure.”
Combs expressed gratitude to everyone offering support and condolences, noting that Carson “knew how much we loved him.” She added that she is “devastated and completely broken” and asked for privacy as the family mourns a life “gone way too soon.”
Funeral arrangements are currently being made, with services planned in Slidell, Louisiana — where the incident occurred — and in Jonesboro, Georgia, at a later date.

“But for now, please respect our privacy as we begin our journey with mourning this devastating loss,” she continued.
Combs acknowledged the difficulty of knowing what to ask for in a moment like this but shared Meal Train and GoFundMe pages created to support the family.
During a Tuesday news conference, the Slidell Police Department announced that Carson’s grandmother, 55-year-old Kristen Anders, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide.
Police Chief Daniel Seuzeneau stated that officers responded to the scene around 7 a.m. and determined that Carson had been waiting outside when Anders left the house and entered her large SUV to head to work. Authorities allege Anders was unaware of the child’s presence and, due to the size of the vehicle, did not see him standing in front of it when she drove forward.

Carson died instantly.
Police also said Anders was later tested and allegedly found to be impaired due to alcohol and central nervous system depressants.
“This is any parent’s worst nightmare,” Seuzeneau said. He noted that the tragedy has deeply affected the officers and first responders who witnessed the scene.
