An Indianapolis man will spend more than six decades in prison for a fatal shooting that occurred on Thanksgiving Day in 2023.

Authorities say Ousman Gasama was discovered dead, “sitting upright” on the front stoop of a residence in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced that investigators quickly identified and apprehended Efrem Edmondson, who was later convicted of murder in September 2025.

Police officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene on November 23, 2023, and found Gasama deceased from gunshot wounds. Following a “trail of blood” into the apartment where the shooting took place, investigators located four witnesses, along with blood droplets and spent cartridge casings.

According to the investigation, the killing stemmed from an argument between Gasama and Edmondson. Witnesses told police that the two men had a long-standing feud, and Gasama had previously expressed concerns for his safety.

Reports from the Indianapolis Star, WTHR, and FOX 59 indicated that tensions between the men escalated that day during a dispute over a bottle of liquor.

Edmondson was found guilty of murder and of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon after a two-day trial, the prosecutor’s office said. He has been sentenced to 67 years in prison.

“What occurred in that apartment should have never even happened,” Prosecutor Ryan Mears said during sentencing. “We cannot allow simple disagreements to evolve into deadly violence. When the defendant pulled that trigger, he took Mr. Gasama’s life and now must face the consequences of that decision.”
