U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace allegedly shouted at law enforcement officers in an expletive-filled outburst at Charleston International Airport on Thursday, Oct. 30.

The South Carolina Republican, who is running for governor, reportedly arrived for an early morning flight and became upset when no security escort met her at her car, according to Wired, which first reported the story and cited a police report.

Two officers from the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department were searching for her in a white BMW, but Mace, 47, arrived in a gray or silver one, The New York Times reported. She then waited for agents near the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint.

After the agents arrived, Mace allegedly complained that Sen. Tim Scott, also from South Carolina, would never face such treatment and threatened to take her concerns to the airport’s chief executive. As officers escorted her to the gate, she reportedly continued to curse and berate them, calling them “f—— incompetent,” according to Wired and The New York Times.

One officer noted, “Any other person acting and talking the way she did, our department would have been dispatched and we would have addressed the behavior.”

Mace later confirmed she was angry at the airport, telling The New York Times, “Did I complain to the airport? 100 percent yes.” She said her reaction stemmed from heightened concern over safety after receiving recent death threats.

“We all get frustrated when it’s not taken seriously,” she added. “One guy had a bunch of electronics in his car,” and another allegedly followed her home. “We’re dealing with all of these things on a daily basis.”

The congresswoman also appeared to reference the episode on X, writing, “And for the FAKE NEWS: This is the entrance ALL Members of Congress use at the airport. Are you going to write that Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott use the same entrance or no? Asking for a friend.”

Cameron Morabito, Mace’s director of operations, told Wired, “Apparently, simply arriving at an airport now makes headlines if you’re leading the race for governor. We are forced to take the congresswoman’s safety extremely seriously. After the world watched Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the threats against her have only intensified. Our security procedures are based solely on legitimate safety concerns, and any attempt to politicize this reality is both dangerous and reckless.”
