Thousands of protesters are expected to take to the streets across the U.S. on August 2 as part of a coordinated “Rage Against the Regime” day of action targeting President Donald Trump and his administration. Over 260 protests have been scheduled in cities nationwide, organized by the activist network 50501.

Newsweek has contacted the group for comment.

Why It Matters

Since Trump returned to the White House in January, waves of protests have erupted across the country—from “Hands Off” rallies to “No Kings” marches and “Tesla Takedown” demonstrations aimed at his policies and high-profile allies like Elon Musk. Many of these events have been led by 50501, also known as “50 Protests, 50 States, One Movement.”

The August 2 demonstrations will spotlight opposition to Trump’s immigration enforcement, executive actions, and what organizers describe as an erosion of democratic norms. The administration maintains its agenda is aimed at restoring law and order, securing borders, and advancing core conservative priorities.

What to Know

According to 50501, at least one protest is planned in nearly every U.S. state, with printable fliers circulating online featuring blunt language opposing Trump and federal immigration authorities.

In a message posted to Reddit, organizers stated: “We’re fed up with the corruption, the cruelty, the erosion of rights. This is about peaceful resistance and using our voices.”

The protests follow June’s “No Kings” demonstrations, which drew large crowds in all 50 states on President Trump’s birthday. That day turned deadly in Salt Lake City, where a protester, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39, was fatally shot.

Recent protests in Los Angeles escalated into confrontations with police and National Guard personnel during rallies opposing Trump’s immigration policies. Law enforcement responded with tear gas and rubber bullets after projectiles were thrown.

Who’s Behind It?

The group behind the protests, 50501, calls on Americans to “transform anger into action” and insists their movement is nonviolent but determined. “We stand strong, bold, and unyielding,” the group wrote. A virtual planning call was scheduled for July 26 to coordinate the upcoming events.

What People Are Saying

The Center for American Progress posted on X (formerly Twitter): “If just 3.5% of Americans—12 million people—mobilize peacefully, the government will have to listen.”

Representative Ted Lieu, a California Democrat, echoed the message: “Continue to exercise your rights to free speech, to protest, to get involved. It all matters.”

What’s Next?

As protests heat up at home, demonstrations against Trump have also emerged abroad. Over the weekend, hundreds gathered in Scotland during the president’s five-day visit, adding to the international outcry against his administration.

With the 2026 midterms approaching, the August 2 protests may mark a pivotal moment in the resistance movement’s push to reshape the national conversation around Trump’s policies and political future.
