A homeowner says her relationship with her new neighbors got off on the wrong foot after she discovered a crude note about her bathroom window just days after moving in.

Posting on the community forum Mumsnet, the woman explained that she and her family had only recently moved into the house when she found a handwritten message that appeared to be from the neighbors living directly across the street.

According to her post, the note bluntly read:
“Get blinds for your bathroom, we don’t want to see you having a s—.”

Shocked by the tone, the homeowner wrote that the bathroom window is frosted, but she suspects that at night, with the light on, silhouettes might be visible from outside.

Still in the middle of unpacking and settling into their new home, she said there was a simple reason for the lack of blinds.

“The seller has taken all blinds out of the property … and we’ve spent today putting some new ones up, including in the bathroom,” she explained.

She added that she felt the neighbors “could have sent a more polite note or knocked on the door,” and asked fellow Mumsnet users if she was being unreasonable “to say they went about this in a rude way?”

In a poll attached to her post, 95% of more than 3,400 voters selected the option, “You are NOT being unreasonable.”

Many commenters backed her up, encouraging her not to reward the rude approach.

“Completely ignore them, it’ll drive them nuts,” one person replied.

Another wrote, “What a horrible welcome note, I’m sorry some people are such s—heads! Just ignore it.”

A third Mumsnet user offered simple advice for how to handle the situation: “Laugh as you put the note in the trash and carry on with your life.”
