New Mom Shocked After In-Laws Mock Her Parents for Getting Emotional, Husband Takes Their Side

Becoming a parent is an emotional turning point in life — but one new mother on Reddit says her in-laws responded to that vulnerable moment with mockery instead of compassion.

“I (f23) just had a baby. After giving birth I stayed with my parents for like 2 months before moving back home with my husband,” she wrote.

During that time, like many first-time moms, she relied on her parents for support and comfort as she recovered and learned to care for her newborn.

When it was finally time to leave, her parents struggled with the goodbye.

“When my husband + his parents came to pick me up, my parents got emotional saying goodbye,” she recalled. “Like yeah they cried a bit, it was really sweet honestly.”

Instead of respecting that heartfelt moment, her in-laws allegedly made fun of it.

“In the car my in-laws started laughing about it?? Like saying ‘oh wow so dramatic’ and stuff,” she wrote.

The new mom described feeling stunned and hurt as she listened.

“I just sat there like… are you serious? It felt so mean and disrespectful.”

What stung even more, she said, was that her husband’s parents had been largely absent during those challenging early weeks.

“Btw during those 2 months they barely texted or called to check on us, not even when the baby got sick twice,” she explained. “And now they’re mocking my parents for caring too much??”

When she spoke up and told them “it wasn’t funny,” her husband allegedly dismissed her feelings and told her she was “overreacting.”

For many readers, his response was just as concerning as his parents’ behavior.

“I am so sorry that you have a child with this man,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “My heart goes out to you. That is not ‘good husband’ or ‘good father’ behavior.”
